Dee Hatch of Raleigh, AARP’s state president for seven years, is the winner of the 2012 Andrus Award, the most prestigious award AARP can bestow on an individual.

Named in honor of AARP’s founder Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, the award celebrates and honors individuals who make a difference in the lives of others, embodying Dr. Andrus’ motto, “To serve, not to be served.”

Dee shared her experience in corporate public relations, serving as Executive Volunteer for Communications for AARP North Carolina prior to appointment to the state presidency. She worked as a reporter and editor for various newspapers prior to moving to Raleigh to serve as Director of Communications for UNC-TV. Her awards include Woman of Achievement in Communications and the Public Information Council Professional Achievement Award, presented by the Southern Educational Communications Association.
