Older adult activities and programs at the Shepherd’s Center of Winston-Salem have changed dramatically over the past five years.
Much of this transformation is a reflection of the growing interest in alternative medicine, in integrative approaches (recognition that body, mind, emotions and spirit are intimately connected) and in self-healing.
These programs, centered on new understandings of well-being and healing, herald a new paradigm of thinking about the relationship between physician and patient. There is a greater sense of self-responsibility for one’s own wellness and less adherence to the belief that the physician is the sole expert on our health.
Some of the most popular Shepherd’s Center programs include presentations on the benefits of meditation, yoga, Tai Chi, Healing Touch, medicinal mushrooms and herbs, and Integrative medicine in general.
