The North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA) is thrilled to offer an online course in conjunction with the upcoming exhibition Ansel Adams: Masterworks — the first NCMA online course available to the public. The self-paced course, which begins Saturday, January 21 and has rolling enrollment through May 21, features exclusive content including interviews with local contemporary NC photographers. “The Photography of Ansel Adams through a Contemporary Lens” is taught by Shannon Johnstone, local photographer and Meredith College professor, and can be enjoyed by anyone around the globe.

WHEN: The course opens January 21 and features rolling enrollment;
people can register anytime between January 21 and May 21,
and will have access to course content throughout the run of
the course.

PRICE: Members $25; Nonmembers $35 (one-time fee)

Explore the enduring impact of Ansel Adams’s photography through interviews with contemporary North Carolina photographers, such as Elizabeth Matheson and Burk Uzzle. This self-paced course is facilitated by Meredith College professor Shannon Johnstone. It is designed to supplement the Ansel Adams: Masterworks exhibition but can be taken independently. Once enrolled, students have access to course content throughout the run of the exhibition. Teachers taking this course can earn certification renewal credits.

This is the first online course offered to the public.
(The NCMA has offered online courses to students and teachers for
the past five years.)

The course features exclusive content not available in the Ansel Adams
exhibition itself.

The course opens two weeks before the exhibition opens and ends
two weeks after the exhibition closes.
People may enroll anytime within that period.

The course includes interviews with contemporary photographers
Elizabeth Matheson, Burk Uzzle, Titus Brooks Heagins, and David
Simonton, as well as with the NCMA’s chief curator and curator
of contemporary art Linda Dougherty.
