From the Publisher…

We are fortunate to live in an area where opportunities abound for retired persons to engage in meaningful pursuits. Not only do the opportunities abound, but our unique geography and climate provide an environment which invigorates and inspires. Our cover story addresses one of the main concerns pre-retirees have when it comes to considering when to retire. Although it is couched in different terms by different people, the root idea is that engaging in the working world keeps us sharp … some refer to it as an “edge.” How does one maintain that undefinable “edge” when you no longer are required to rise with the sun? This issue explores just a handful of vastly different pursuits that are attracting retirees and in some cases, transforming their lives as they find ways to not only maintain their “edge” but discover their new selves. Central North Carolina is a retirement mecca, not only for its wonderful climate and agreeable cost-of-living, but also for its endless variety of cultural activities, travel opportunities, and many ways to engage productively to make our communities and ourselves … stronger and better.
