Jayne Ericourt
Jayne Ericourt began her piano studies when she was three years old and her mother discovered she had perfect pitch. She practiced daily until she was 18 when she decided to close the piano and play no more. “I was tired of playing. At last I was free to do what I wanted.”
At age 30, after marriage and three children, she realized how much she missed playing, especially when she drove past Aycock Auditorium where she had performed at nine years of age with the North Carolina Symphony.
She wanted a teacher but could find no one to challenge her until Daniel Ericourt, world-acclaimed interpreter of Debussy, came to teach at UNCG. They were married three years later and then spent decades on concert tours in Central and South America, Europe and the United States.
Following his death several years ago, Jayne has continued to play, spending at least two hours daily at the piano. Although thoroughly American, she looks Spanish and has a special affinity for that country, playing the works of Spanish composers as though born there. She also works out regularly to remain trim and lithe for her second profession, modeling for Directions USA in Greensboro.
