Dick Strohmeier

Dick Strohmeier came late to acting after flying through global skies for 38 years: 11 years of military aviation ( USAF and ANG) and 27 years as an airline pilot. He came to North Carolina in 1982 with Piedmont Airlines (later US Air) following the bankruptcy of Braniff International. After retirement, he was a very effective Executive Director of the Kernersville Chamber of Commerce until 1997 when he rediscovered acting.

“I read about a small study that was done in a retirement community regarding activities which contributed to preserving brain function,” Dick says. “It was found that, while some activities helped a certain area of the brain, acting provided the best overall benefit for the brain. I’ve enjoyed acting a great deal for about 14 years now. It keeps me off the streets and I’ve met a large, diverse group of new friends.”

He’s been busy ever since acting in 24 plays with theatre groups throughout the Triad and eight films with North Carolina School of the Arts and independent producers. Recipient of numerous “best actor” awards, he also conducts acting classes and workshops for Winston-Salem Little Theatre and Guilford Technical Community College.
