The folks at Galloway Ridge at Fearrington don’t stop at just taking care of their residents. They go well beyond with such programs as the radio show they recently launched to inform and entertain seniors in the Triangle area.
The program, “Seniors 2.0: Your Life Redefined,” hosted by Heather Rusnak and Pat Richardson, is broadcast on WCOM 103.5 FM out of Carrboro, every Thursday at 11 a.m.
Richardson, director of community relations at Galloway Ridge, came up with the idea for the show, and after several months of review by WCOM, the show received approval.
“It wasn’t an opportunity to advertise and market Galloway Ridge,” Richardson said. “We just wanted people to know that we feel like we have considerable experience in the Triangle which we want to share. If we do not have the expertise on a subject, we will invite an expert in the field including our residents.”
Rusnak, the CEO and executive director of Galloway Ridge, said the show is not the only show of its type, but it is intended to capture more of a “lively aim” instead of focusing on clinical issues. “We’re just saying that seniors still have a lot of life, and we’re going to celebrate that. I think that’s the difference between our program and other senior radio talk shows.”
Once Rusnak decided to sponsor the show, he and Richardson took the idea to Bill McClymont, chief engineer and president of WCOM’s board of directors who liked it.
Since January, seven shows have been produced, including one featuring Dianne Reid, president of the Chatham Economic Development Corporation. “I think [the park] will have a pretty significant impact on everyone in the county, including seniors,” Reid said. “It seemed like a good fit.”
Richardson says planning is underway for shows about technology and travel and how they relate to a post-retirement life. For more information on the Galloway Ridge Radio, please tune in at www.wcomfm.org. Live streaming is available.
