Bob Garner, 67, is known for his appreciative murmur of gustatory delight after tasting food on air for UNC-TV’s “North Carolina Weekend”. In fact, his grandchildren (ages 2 – 12), who tease him about how he almost smacks his lips when tasting dishes on television, are probably responsible for the title of this, his fourth book.
The 187-page book mentions barbecue, chief topic of previous books, but mostly explores other traditional dishes such as fish stew, Ocracoke fig cake, banana pudding, collards, and Moravian chicken pie.
As he told the Charlotte Observer recently,“I just love that people get misty-eyed about certain foods because of a sense of place and memories, especially when everywhere is looking more and more like everywhere else…”
