Cara Townsend hit the ground running when she arrived in the Triad Tuesday, May 24, to establish an AARP office in the Triad as Associate State Director.
She met a host of AARP volunteers at the Greensboro home of David and Catherine Sevier on Tuesday, then attended the May meeting of the PTRC’s Regional Advisory Council on Aging two days later.
Cara has more than 15 years of experience in public policy, having served four members of Congress, the White House, and North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory. In 2004, she was selected as a Presidential Appointee in Congressional Affairs for the George W. Bush Administration.
When introducing Cara, AARP State Director Doug Dickerson explained AARP’s reason for stationing associate directors outside the Raleigh office. “Providing the best service to AARP members means having a strong community presence across the state. Cara Townsend’s policy focus will benefit older adults given her experience that includes health care, energy, public safety, and seniors’ issues.”
