Susan Meny, Vital Living Program Director of the Shepherd’s Center of Greater Winston-Salem, was recently selected by the N.C. Association on Aging to receive their 2016 Guiding Star Award. This award honors an individual for their dedication and skills in the management of programs that benefit older adults and recognizes the quality of their work in the community.
Meny joined the Shepherd’s Center in 2010 as Senior Center Director. Under Susan’s leadership during the past five years, in addition to the programming at the center, the program now has a presence in ten locations in which we sponsor regular activities and events. Last year the program served 2,580 participants with an attendance of 31,775. In 2015, the Senior Center Program was renamed the Vital Living Program to better capture the diversity and scope of the program.
In addition, Susan recently received her Ann Johnson Institute certification required of all senior center directors in the state. She has also served as a presenter at the annual Senior Center Director’s conference and Senior Center Alliance meetings as well as being an active participant in statewide alliance activities.
