Residents can honor the memory of a loved one while making Winston-Salem a better place to live through the Recreation Department’s Memory Tree Program.
When purchasing a Memory Tree, you can select the type of tree you prefer, the person to be remembered, and a location on city property. The department will have the tree planted, and affix a weatherproof tag with the name of the person in whose memory the tree is planted. Upon request, the city will let you know when the tree will be planted so you can be present.
Memory Trees are planted in the spring and the fall, but can be ordered any time. The general cost ranges from $57.50 – $95.
You may also purchase a Memory Bench, wooden-slatted with a plaque. The cost is $200 which includes bench, plaque and installation. For more information, call Kim Young, Memory Tree Coordinator at 336-659-4305.
