When you think about it, what’s on your list of “tolerations?” I was asked that not too long ago with a business coaching group and found it helpful. So, I’m asking you!

Tolerations are those things (big or small) that are not quite right in our own life, which we try to ignore even while they suck our energy every day. That might include a messy desk (creating inefficiency), scratched eyeglasses (requiring scheduling an eye exam), neglected house repairs (fixable but how to find the time?), lack of time with ones you love (because other things get in the way), etc.

Every time a toleration interrupts our day, we think about it, wish it was different, and then step around it (sometimes figuratively, and sometimes literally) until the next time. But when we fix and remove tolerations, we feel better. We’re able to move ahead with important plans, instead of bearing the burden of tolerations.

George Bernard Shaw said this about the human condition:

“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world. The unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”

In this Covid-19 world, life is certainly different, and there are some things we cannot change. Yet now is a great time to resolve to improve what you can, including fixing and tossing aside the tolerations and undone tasks we have carried with us for too long.

We can’t control what happens to us. But we can control our actions and how we respond, including better planning for the future.

Two common tolerations people carry is worrying about their estate and their elder care planning not being up to date. That worry increases when we hear daily news about the risks of Covid-19 to our health.

We could all benefit from more peace of mind during these different times. How much better would you feel knowing you have protected yourself, your family and your money (and your business if you are a business owner) against life’s eventualities?

The real issue for this planning is getting your problem solved so you can get what you want out of life. Because that’s important to you then I recommend we get started.

It is our privilege to work with wonderful families motivated to protect what’s most important. Stay well, stay strong, and get started.
