The Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts will host Greensboro native Rhiannon Giddens with Italian multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi in concert on September 2 at 8 p.m.
Giddens co-founded the Grammy Award-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops, and she has been nominated for six additional Grammys for her work as a soloist and collaborator. Giddens’ latest album, They’re Calling Me Home, recorded with Turrisi speaks of the longing for the comfort of home.
Her critical acclaim includes in-depth profiles by CBS Sunday Morning, the New York Times, the New Yorker, and NPR’s Fresh Air, Ken Burns’s Country Music series on PBS, among others. As an actor, Giddens was featured on the television series Nashville.
Giddens has sold-out concerts at the Carolina Theatre in 2016 and 2017, and at the 2018 N.C. Folk Festival. She will return to the Tanger Center stage in January 2022, starring as Bess in Greensboro Opera’s presentation of Porgy & Bess.
