Dementia Alliance of North Carolina is pleased to announce this comprehensive caregiver conference featuring Teepa Snow, who has generously donated this training.
Today’s Voice for Dementia, Teepa Snow is one of the world’s leading advocates and educators for anyone living with dementia. Teepa will focus on GEMS® states, providing practical tips and caregiver skill-building for each stage of dementia progression. There will also be a special session for support group leaders and how they can support their group members throughout the dementia journey.
Teepa’s philosophy is reflective of her education, work experience, medical research, and first-hand caregiving experiences. Her advocacy efforts led her to the development of the GEMS® dementia classification model and the Positive Approach® to Care training strategies.
Teepa Snow is an occupational therapist with 40 years of rich and varied clinical and academic experience. She presents with extraordinary expertise and humor to audiences large and small throughout the world. Her company, Positive Approach® to Care (PAC) provides on-line and in-person services, training, and products to professionals, family members, the lay public, and people living with brain changes internationally. Her GEMS® State Model for understanding progression and change in ability, combined with her PAC™ Skills, form practical and effective strategies and techniques for individuals and agencies seeking to optimize care and support for those living with dementia and their care partners.

The Progression of the Condition – Getting Practical
Teepa Snow will focus on the progression of dementia using the GEMS states, and teach practical tips and skills for helping at each state. Focus on helping caregivers improve their ‘helping skills’ and also be able to recognize who really needs to be changing and how to do so.
Breaks & Lunch would be included in this time.
